Introduction to the e-Tax Invoice & e-Receipt System in Thailand
Many countries worldwide have adopted e-Invoicing to streamline tax reporting, improve administrative efficiency, and enhance the accuracy of tax computation.
The e-Tax Invoice and e-Receipt system is a government-endorsed digital initiative aimed at modernizing tax processes in Thailand. This system allows businesses to issue, transmit, and store tax invoices and receipts electronically, replacing traditional paper-based methods. Introduced by the Thailand Revenue Department (RD), this system aims to establish a fully integrated digital tax ecosystem for all Thai businesses by 2028,
Implementing an e-Tax invoice system offers significant benefits for enterprises:
- Transitioning to a paperless system
- Streamlining the VAT documentation process
- Reduction in time and costs associated with document delivery and storage
- Improved data integrity, accuracy, and consistency in VAT documentation
- Support for advanced business analytics requirements
These benefits help businesses stay competitive while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
Key Requirements and Formats for e-Invoices
VAT is an indirect tax levied on the value added at each stage of production and distribution. Any individual or entity that regularly supplies goods or provides services in Thailand and has an annual turnover exceeding 1.8 million baht is subject to VAT. Registered individuals or entities are required to submit the VAT Return - PP30 report to the Thailand Revenue Department to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Electronic invoices exchanged in Thailand must contain information about the seller, buyer, and transaction values. Specifically, Thai electronic invoices must include the following data:
- Customer name
- Customer address
- Description of the goods/ services
- Price of the goods/ services
- VAT amount
Sending e-Invoices to the Thai National E-Invoicing System
There are several ways of sending e-Invoices to the Thai National E-Invoicing System, such as by uploading the XML file to the e-Tax web portal, sending email invoices as a PDF file, or integrating e-Invoicing from your organization’s accounting system to Thai e-Tax system.
The adoption of e-Invoicing has expanded significantly and is now widespread among Thai government agencies and enterprises. Therefore, businesses that integrate e-Invoicing into their operations will gain a competitive advantage when collaborating with these organizations.
To fully maximise the benefits of e-Invoice, implementing a comprehensive ERP system such as SAP Business One is essential. SAP Business One enables enterprises to seamlessly integrate key business functions such as accounting, sales, procurement, inventory management, and more. By providing a unified platform for managing operations, it enhances efficiency, minimizes data inaccuracies, and ensures your invoices are accurately and securely transmitted to the Thai e-Tax system.

Thailand Government Incentives for the e-Invoicing Program
Thailand’s Revenue Authority has approved a number of incentives for taxpayers to fully adopt the e-Tax System.
Eligible companies can benefit from the following:
- Double deduction for Corporate Income Tax:
- Expenses relating to the investment in the e-Tax invoice and e-Receipt systems.
- Costs incurred from purchasing computer programs and software, computers, e-signature tools, e-certificate storage equipment, data storage and more.
- Payments for the use of e-Tax invoice, e-Receipt system and e-Withholding tax systems paid to service providers.
- Reduced Withholding Tax Rate:
- A reduced withholding tax rate of 1% for specific payments made through the e-Tax system between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025.
Conclusion
Thai businesses are enjoying strong economic growth as a result of expanding trade partnerships, creating greater opportunities for local enterprises. As e-Invoicing becomes more prevalent, businesses that seize the opportunity to join the e-Tax program now will benefit from significant cost savings and gain a competitive edge. With the use of SAP Business One, companies can seamlessly integrate their financial and operational processes, enhance efficiency, ensure compliance, and drive long-term growth in an increasingly digital business landscape.
